Louis Vuitton is a name usually associated with elegance and feminine delicacy and it’s why the Louis Vuitton Spring 2014 RTW Collection got us all by surprise. The collection displayed an extreme, Gothic-like side with dramatic designs. Of course, the biggest highlight was the feathered headdress that each model wore. This detail definitely made the show more interesting. But let’s more focus on what really matters: the clothes.
The inspiration for this collection came from stars known to impress with their unusual clothing choices, such as Lady Gaga and Madonna. The electrifying atmosphere made the designs stand out even more. The combinations of fabrics and textures we see in this collection are some of the most unusual. For example, you can see combinations like tulle and jeans which is not just uncommon but also strange and surprisingly harmonious.
The collection displayed an interesting mix of modern and Victorian influences. The show had an almost circus-like feel but, in spite of the eye-catching headdresses, the beautiful designs stood out and didn’t let them steal the show. This is definitely a collection to remember, one that stands out even for a famous name like Mark Jacobs.
What I particularly like about it is that, even though the creations have very strong and aggressive designs, they manage to remain elegant and they never fall into the dark side. Even without the huge feathered headdresses, the designs remain powerful and bizarre.
